What is the original Dead of Darkness about?

Dead of Darkness launched on Steam on January 23, 2025. In 1985 England, private investigator Miles Windham follows a lead on the mysterious death of his daughter to Velvet Island. Once he arrives he realizes the residents are behaving strangely, with a hostility that grows by the minute, and soon he is fighting for survival. The store text calls it a survival-horror action-adventure with cosmic horror influences, and it features more than 15 characters, scarce resources and limited inventory, and hallucination sequences. Should I play it before Dead of Darkness 2?

If you like old-school survival horror, yes — it is the cheapest way to find out whether the series suits you, and it is discounted at launch of the sequel announcement. The Part 2 plot, summarized in story and setting, is told with a new cast, so skipping Part 1 does not block the premise.
